Leenane Village wants to welcome you to its peaks and fjords during a weekend full of walks and events, so whether you’re game for a ramble, or you’d rather unleash your knowledge at a table quiz, you’ll find something to love at this festival.
Leenane is a romantic place. The azure sea twinkles in the bay at Killary Harbour. A 16km fjord, it is bound in the distance by the Maamtrasna and Maamturk mountains at the border between Galway and Mayo.
The colours of Leenane change with the seasons, and this spring, as the lushness revives the greenery after a sharp winter, walkers will descend on it to enjoy a walk. Whether you’re a beginner, frequent dabbler, or looking for something more strenuous, the festival will have something for you, offering at least three walks a day exploring places like the Killary Famine Trail, Mweelrea, 12 Bens and Ben Gorm.
If you’re looking for give your feet a rest, you can also dip into the festival’s schedule of presentations from local historians and adventurers, but do ensure that you are fully recovered before the céilí on the Sunday evening. Swinging around the hall dancing your heart out in the true West of Ireland tradition will be the only way to top off such a wonderful weekend.
